Student Question:

I feel like I’m drowning in information overload every day. Friends keep introducing projects to me — Xinjiang salmon, nutrition, jade, live streaming, plus endless things I come across online. Every time I look into one, I find I could get up to speed on the knowledge fairly quickly, but building the channels takes a long time. I want to try one as a side business, but I was already feeling lost to begin with, and taking in all this information just pulls me in more directions.

How do I break through this?

Master Chi’s Response:

Focus on two key areas.

The first area: the early stage.

Don’t set your goals too high. Be realistic — spend 20% of your time learning. The majority of your time should go toward action and practice, with feedback built into that process.

For example, when friends introduce you to various projects, beyond analyzing the project itself, you also need to ask: in the process of actually doing this, do I have an edge? Do I genuinely enjoy it?

Make your choice from that foundation.

Take what you mentioned about certain channels requiring a long time to build — in that case, don’t worry about channels right now. Start with sales. Go help others sell their products. Once you’ve broken through that sales node, you’ll naturally meet people who know how channels are built and gain access to the relevant resources along the way. Develop your capabilities in the process, wait for the right moment, and seize it when it comes.

The second point: be clear on your goals.

Right now you want to explore different projects. But what is your actual goal? Is it to build your capabilities? To increase your monthly income? To change your lifestyle?

You need to think this through clearly — what is the one thing you most want to gain? If you’re not clear on this, you’ll end up wanting everything. And the result? It likely won’t be what you hoped for.

To gain something, you must be willing to give something up.

Start by deciding what you’re prepared to let go of. From that foundation, the gains will come naturally.
