TITLE: You Are Your Own Greatest Noble Benefactor
So many times, you are simply far too sensitive — and that sensitivity bleeds your energy away from genuine self-growth, steering you down the detour of “how do I avoid being laughed at.”
The truth is, the moment you quiet your mind, concentrate your energy on yourself, stop reading into what others might be thinking, and stop catastrophizing over things that haven’t even happened —
Then, as you make your life a little simpler, a little purer, a little more grounded — you’ll discover that your life is actually wonderfully free.
Yes, a human life looks endlessly long on the surface, yet it vanishes in the blink of an eye.
So don’t let unnecessary petty people and trivial affairs harass you. Don’t let moral pressure drag you into other people’s karma and leave you disheveled and off-balance.
Learn to watch from a cool, detached distance. It will do you far more good than harm.
If you truly have energy to spare, spend it eating food you love, seeing landscapes you love, reading books you love, and being with people you love. And if even that feels like too much — seriously cultivating your inner strength and taking stock of your life is an equally fine choice.
Likewise, when anxiety, fear, and worry grip you — don’t collapse into a listless, defeated heap and do nothing.
Grit your teeth. Get your real work started. The moment you have something meaningful to occupy your hands, you’ll find that the bad emotions quietly dissolve on their own.
Understand this: emotions are nothing more than a temporary ache. They are not built to last.
But if you allow them to run unchecked — let them flatten you entirely — they will gain more and more power over you with time, growing heavier and heavier as they circle your life, becoming a nightmare you cannot shake.
The best way forward is to let things take their natural course and face them with equanimity — but never let them shake your footing. Keep walking the right path. Do what needs to be done — firm, yet gentle.
That way, even the fiercest anxiety, fear, or sorrow will be scattered by the positive energy that surrounds you.
Understand this: the greatest noble benefactor (Gui Ren) of your entire life is absolutely not me, Master Chi — nor any other elder or mentor you might look to.
Your greatest noble benefactor has always been yourself.
Because only you — at your most desperate moments — can rescue yourself from the torment of purgatory, again and again and again, without end.
So Master Chi hopes you can grasp this ultimate principle of life: you are you, and there is only one of you in this world. Taking good care of your own life and staying focused on your real work — that beats everything else.
We are in this world for no more than thirty thousand days, give or take.
So don’t be afraid. Don’t panic. Drop your pride. Eat when you should eat, drink when you should drink, sleep when you should sleep. Pour every ounce of your energy and time into pleasing yourself and becoming a better version of yourself.
If you can actually live this way, you’ll find that while hardship and misfortune will still come knocking from time to time — they will never be able to truly wound you.
On the contrary, you will shake them off remarkably fast, and then — lightly, joyfully — you will make lasting, true companions of happiness, achievement, wealth, and ease.
And that is the life Master Chi hopes you will own.
