[福][發][發][發] Master Chi wants to share something important with you first thing this morning: the authentic, traditional customs for welcoming the God of Wealth — and how to do them properly.

1. Many people like to welcome the God of Wealth at the midnight hour on the 4th day of the New Year by setting off fireworks. In truth, this isn’t quite the right approach.

Fireworks and firecrackers are traditionally used to frighten away the Nian beast — they’re part of the preparation, not the welcoming itself. Let the others enjoy their fireworks and leave that to them. 😄

2. To attract wealth, first clear your path. After washing up in the morning, sweep and tidy the entrance to your home — whether it’s a house or an apartment. Make sure the hallway and the path to your door are clean and unobstructed.

Look around your neighborhood: homes and businesses with cluttered, messy entryways almost always seem to struggle. That’s no coincidence.

3. Keep yourself presentable. Ladies, comb your hair; gentlemen, shave and wash your face. And above all — avoid pungent foods like scallions, ginger, or garlic first thing in the morning.

4. In the due north position of your home — on a table or any flat surface — place a cup of fresh tea (green tea is ideal), along with some candies, biscuits, or sweets. If possible, prop up a tablet or small image of Zhao Gongming, the God of Wealth.

Directly below, place a small bowl filled with rice and bury three coins inside.

Then, silently recite a blessing to yourself — something like: “May wealth enter my door and blessings fill heaven and earth; may noble fortune (Gui Ren) walk beside me, bringing good omens in all directions.”

Afterward, take the three coins and place one each in your office desk, your study desk, and your wallet.

5. Finally, Master Chi wishes you a new year of steady primary income and flourishing windfall fortune — wealth that comes easily and stays put.
