Things cannot be allowed to spiral out of control.
There’s a great deal of wishful thinking in how people view what’s happening in northern Myanmar. The anti-fraud crackdown was always supposed to be mutual exploitation — make your point and stop there. But the local warlords have blown it out of proportion, and now everyone’s riding a tiger — impossible to advance or retreat. This is our strategic energy corridor. Once things become truly unmanageable, outside forces will not miss their opportunity.
Warlords operate with only two objectives: 1. Seize territory. 2. Grab power. People keep engaging in wishful thinking.
Whether they rename an ethnic group or restore ancient place names — it’s all a ploy to drag you in. They use you as a tiger skin. The more they fan flames everywhere, the easier it becomes for others to assume you’re the one pulling the strings, which forces the opposing side to treat you as their enemy.
These are godforsaken places with nothing to offer. Apart from cultivating drugs and running online fraud operations — the only fast-money industries available — these warlords genuinely have no way to generate enough income to sustain their armed forces. No armed forces, no territory. No territory, no power. It’s a dead knot — the same for whoever ends up in charge.
Do you think you could personally step in and impose order on a place that’s been chaos for 75 years? You can’t. Right now, you have a vital energy lifeline running straight through that territory, crossing every faction’s turf. Is it better to negotiate terms with one party — or with a whole tangle of them?
Everyone is using everyone else to get what they want. Now that the job is done, they should disperse. The problem is they refuse to leave, and they’re pushing hard to escalate — trying to drag you deeper in. That’s precisely what makes this a tiger you can’t let go of. No good move in either direction.
The Kachin State is Christian. It has always been pro-Western, historically funded by the West, and has advocated for full independence — not just for its own territory, but seeking to absorb areas within China’s Yunnan Province where the same ethnic group resides.
Online gambling and fraud originated in the Kachin State, then spread to the Kokang region. Now they’re the ones jumping the highest and pushing the hardest, sending people everywhere to back those warlords.
