Tonight, I’m asking for a little grace from my brothers and sisters โ it’s my birthday, so there will be no article this evening.
I’ll spend these hours with my family, settle into a book, and savor a rare moment of stillness. After all, our bond runs long and deep, so surely one small indulgence is forgivable. ๐
And there is one thing I do want to give you tonight:
It’s not that life gets better and then you get better. It’s that you get better first โ and then life gets better.
This is a truth that has grown richer and more certain in me with each passing year.
Life, in the end, is built from the quiet accumulation of countless small moments. A good life rarely hinges on one or two grand, pivotal decisions. It’s more that you take things a little more seriously here, pay a little more attention there โ and day by day, your inner state rises. Life follows.
The great Dao (the Way) is simple. That’s all there is to it.
I hope this small birthday offering finds good use in you. ๐
