Master Chi has always felt that we modern people have one glaring problem: a serious lack of practical, hands-on ability and the real-world knowledge to handle actual difficulties.
Let’s not even talk about extreme scenarios. Basic skills like treating everyday injuries, purifying water in an emergency, or safely starting a fire — most people simply don’t know how to do any of these things.
Of course, Master Chi also hopes you’ll never need these skills in your lifetime. Because that would mean you’ve spent your whole life in an orderly, safe, and comfortable urban environment.
But humans genuinely need a certain baseline mindset. At the very least, it’s worth spending a day or two to learn and practice some of the most fundamental survival skills.
Yesterday Master Chi recommended a few books, but it turns out some of them are actually out of print now. So today, let me take this opportunity to share three more excellent options with you.
One important note: don’t just read these books — practice the techniques with your family when you have free time. If you have children at home especially, the educational value is tremendous.
The SAS Survival Handbook: The Ultimate Guide to Surviving Anywhere by John “Lofty” Wiseman, Mountaineering: The Freedom of the Hills, and The Military-Civilian Dual-Use Skills Handbook — all of these should be available to purchase online, and each one is packed with high-quality, practical content.
(As for something like the Barefoot Doctor’s Manual — it’s honestly too outdated at this point, so I won’t be recommending that one.)
And if any of you have other book recommendations, please share them in the comments! [hugs]
