Of all the solar terms, Grain Buds (小满, Xiao Man) is my favorite.
Everything in this world requires balance. That is why I never encourage my brothers and sisters to surge too fast or ride fortune too smoothly. For after great fullness, lack must follow — this is fixed law.
But Grain Buds alone is something special. It is the moment when all things are approaching fullness, yet have not quite arrived — and so they remain in a state of vibrant, ever-rising energy.
So what should you do today?
Master Chi suggests spending a modest amount on something you enjoy — a piece of clothing, a small object that pleases you. Do not let your wealth stagnate and pool to overflowing. Besides, the old must go before the new can come.
Today is also not the day for indulgence at the table. Eat just a little less than your fill, and drink your water slowly and in measured sips. Gentle, moderate, unhurried — that is the finest way.
Finally, place a half-full cup on your desk today. Let it carry the meaning of receiving good fortune and welcoming blessings, so that your luck may continue flowing without stopping here.
