It wasn’t until I was past thirty that I finally had my awakening.

I realized: in this life, you must never let a savior complex run wild — never go around pitying people for no reason.

Even with your closest family and dearest friends, you cannot endlessly volunteer your help without limits. That path harms everyone, including yourself.

When someone falls into difficulty, the best response is simple: express a touch of concern, offer a brief and general observation — and then stop.

If that person has genuine wisdom and knows how to carry themselves, they will naturally respond with humility and begin seeking your guidance.

This kind of person — help them, and you plant a good karmic bond.

But if they brush off your goodwill without a second thought, stop right there. Respect the fate they’ve chosen for themselves, and let them fall on their own.

This kind of person — continue helping them, and you are paying out of your own pocket with nothing in return.

So never let a moment of soft-hearted impulse drive you to give without measure.

There is an old saying: a peck of rice earns gratitude, a bushel earns resentment. The kindness you offer uninvited — delivered like a saint — is the cheapest thing in other people’s eyes. It may even make them look down on you.

The same effort, energy, and time invested in yourself — that is where the real return lies.

Because in this world, only you yourself will never betray or disappoint you.

Remember this: the soft-hearted have always lived with little fortune. It is those with an iron will who achieve greatness.

Learn to become the Nine-Colored Deer (Jiuse Xianglü — the mythical deer of pure virtue, who chooses its recipients with wisdom).

Your radiance and warmth are only for those who recognize you, love you, and respect you.

As for those who regard you with contempt — give them not a single ember of warmth. Every drop you offer them is wasted.
