Every Wednesday, I find myself slipping into a pleasantly lazy state. I don’t want to do anything — just curl up with a book in a warm patch of sunlight, or sink into a comfortable chair and watch a film or two.
Nothing else.
That kind of rest sets me up beautifully for the rest of the week. My mind clears, ideas flow, and I feel fully recharged.
For deeper restoration, nothing beats travel. Before the pandemic, I made it a habit to take my wife and family away every few months. We always headed somewhere warm and inviting — the Maldives, Palau, Boracay, the Phi Phi Islands, Phuket, and of course Sanya and Macau closer to home.
Every time we returned from a trip, I felt completely refreshed — energy levels through the roof.
Don’t underestimate this. I’ve genuinely seen many people who spend decades grinding themselves down, draining their vitality and health, living what looks like a hardworking life but is really just a kind of self-imposed asceticism.
The result? Their body and mind deteriorate from the relentless wear, and they end up with neither the success they chased nor the happiness they deserved.
In the end, they break — and it’s a tragedy.
Master Chi doesn’t want that for you. My hope for you has always been balance — work hard, yes, but don’t neglect yourself and don’t shortchange yourself either.
Life shouldn’t be a grueling marathon run to the point of exhaustion. It should be a walk — sometimes busy, sometimes unhurried, filled with memories worth keeping.
So the moment the pandemic clears and travel becomes easy again, I’ll be heading out without hesitation — somewhere, anywhere, just to breathe and reset.
Now, we touched on travel a couple of days ago, so today Master Chi wants to hear from you: once this pandemic is behind us, what are your plans?
And do you have any good tips for restoring your energy? If so, please share them in the comments below — let others appreciate your wisdom, and let that generosity bring good karma (福报) your way.
